Descendants is an emerging company composed predominantly of Afro-descendant Italians, founded and led by Carlos Kamizele, a Congolese dancer and choreographer born in Kinshasa, who arrived in Italy at the age of 7 and began dancing at 14. In this new production, he is joined by twenty-year-old Carolina De Almeida, an outstanding performer born in Imola with Brazilian roots. Together they create Nyumbani, a Swahili word meaning Home, which evokes the sense of belonging or, conversely, the disorientation caused by the lack of recognition of one’s roots.
