#an eternally rising state
An atmospheric project 2022-24
In collaboration with Triennale Milano and Istituto di Alti Studi Coreografici spazio nomade di ricerca concept Michele Di Stefano curated by mk

A habitat-performance inviting the search for a collective connection in movement and pure dynamic expression, Piscina Mirabilis is born from the desire to address a wide and inclusive community of dancers, performers, actors, athletes, bodies, figures, and people aiming to project themselves onto the scene—a scene that does not necessarily coincide with conventional performative professional activity. The scene becomes an unexpectedly everyday place, where body and mind in movement can act uninfluenced by predefined roles.

Between 2011 and 2023, El Conde de Torrefiel has created a variety of performative devices for different contexts where sound has acquired an important role in the dramaturgical construction of their pieces. La luz de un lago is the title of a new theatrical work structured around the utilization of sound as a tool to investigate the possibility of images beyond their own material, plastic, and visual scope, and to establish contact with the sensorial capacity of the spectator.

Filmed during the pandemic at the Battersea Arts Center, Shechter puts the extraordinary architecture of the venue at the center of the scene. From the elegance of the Grand Hall to the intimate and suggestive spaces to the labyrinthine Gothic hallways, he creates an extraordinary film and dance piece that is simultaneously emotionally complex, highly significant, and theatrically powerful. Political Mother is the most iconic creation by Hofesh Shechter, the piece that has made him renowned in theaters around the world.

LIGHTS, CAMERA … CLOWNS! (2018)
In September 2018, Clowns by Hofesh Shechter (presented at Torinodanza 2022), his first short film, was broadcast on BBC Two as part of the Performance Live series. Clowns was filmed in the beautiful and historic Rivoli Ballroom in London. It is not a simple transposition from stage to screen; it pushes the spectator into the heart of the action, surrounded by ten exceptional dancers, creating a completely immersive and engaging experience, almost in 3D.

Additional music J. S. Bach
There is no better way to celebrate being alive than through the lens of death: and Hofesh Shechter sets the performance in a mortuary. The film includes material shot among the mysterious industrial architectures of the Wizemann site, very close to the rehearsal studio of Gauthier Dance. For the soundtrack, Shechter was inspired by a Johann Sebastian Bach concert.

LA VITA È UNA DANZA
(original title EN CORPS)

Cinema Massimo  | October 20th 2024 – 6 PM
by Cédric Klapisch, 2022
A fictional piece, it tells the story of the forced rest of Elise, played by Marion Barbeau, principal dancer of the Paris Opéra. Betrayed by her body and by those she loves, she is ready to give up and follows a friend and her partner, traveling cooks, to Brittany. Together, they prepare food for a maison for artists hosting choreographer Hofesh Shechter and his company for a season. Amid new and old bonds, a new horizon takes shape. A new rhythm, electric and tribal, anchored to the Earth and the territory.
