Artistic Director of Torinodanza Festival
A DIRECTION OF THE BODY
2024 EDITION
Faithful to its mission, the Torinodanza Festival explores the world of artistic creation, juxtaposing the renowned names in contemporary choreography with the emerging expressions of research and trends that are making their mark on today’s scene. The guiding principle of this year’s programming centers on choreography as a practice and aesthetic and semantic construction: a “direction of the body” capable of conveying artistically meaningful processes that speak to the audience, offering possibilities for abstraction, forms of reading, and interpretation of reality. The primary goal of the festival is to prioritize a plurality of expressions in a fertile and active dialogue between the international scene and Italian production, fostering a dialectical intertwining of languages, cultures, and experiences.
The festival is made possible thanks to the commitment of enlightened partners who support the performing arts and dance as essential for the cultural and social growth of their community. Foremost among these, with thankfulness, is the Teatro Stabile di Torino, which, this year, is guided by a new board of directors whom I particularly greet and thank for their trust, support, and shared ideas and principles that inspire us.
My special thanks always go to the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, which accompanies the festival with awareness, in an ever-lively dialogue aimed at building a path of shared values and objectives. A special thanks also to Intesa Sanpaolo, a faithful and invaluable sponsor. I extend my gratitude to the public institutions: the City of Turin, which supports our work with conviction and authority; the Region of Piedmont for its enduring attention and support over the years; the Municipality of Moncalieri and the Italian Ministry of Culture, which has strengthened its support over time. Torinodanza is completed through collaboration with the many cultural institutions that animate the city and constitute a unique network in the national panorama: Fondazione per la Cultura Torino, MITO SettembreMusica, Fondazione Piemonte dal Vivo with the Lavanderia a Vapore di Collegno Dance Residence Center, Associazione Mosaico Danza and Festival Interplay, Fondazione Teatro Piemonte Europa and Festival delle Colline Torinesi Torino Creazione Contemporanea, Fondazione Teatro Ragazzi e Giovani, Museo Nazionale del Cinema, Cinema Massimo, and Orsolina 28 Art Foundation.
Turin is a privileged place where dance has gained a prominent role in the artistic production landscape over the years, and Torinodanza, in its international vocation, acts as a link between the region and the rest of the world.
